More than 25 years ago, Tomatillos first opened its doors on downtown San Antonio’s main thoroughfare of Broadway. The neighborhood was an eclectic blend of historical landmarks, modern structures, blinking neon signs, colorful murals, and a variety of ethnic fare.
Tomatillos was far from the only Mexican restaurant in San Antonio, but it captured the festive spirit of the city’s culture and drew locals from all areas of town. The authentic Tex-Mex cuisine and festive atmosphere attracted out-of-town visitors as well.
Rick Montez has owned and run Tomatillos since 2011. Mr. Montez started in the restaurant business in 1984, working his way up from the very bottom to Manager. After he acquired Tomatillos from Dwight Lieb, the original founder, he assembled his management team and staff to give his customers the very best service, a menu that features dishes rich in Tex-Mex flavor, and a spacious dining room complete with lively music, twinkling lights, a charming waterfall and colorful decorations.
